Description

Bulbine frutescens (B. caulescens) is a compact succulent with thin cylindrical green leaves that spreads by rhizomes to form clumps. Yellow Stalked Bulbine has yellow star-shaped flowers with fuzzy yellow stamens that bloom all summer in coastal gardens. Bulbine may become summer-dormant in hot interior gardens, but can rebloom in the fall. The slender long green leaves resemble grass from a distance and provide textural contrast in the succulent garden. Easy to grow, this waterwise succulent looks good in mass plantings, borders, containers, or in rock gardens.

Plant care

Requires well drained soil. Water regularly after planting until roots are established then reduce frequency. May benefit from afternoon shade in hot inland areas. Remove spent flowers to encourage rebloom in fall. Prune old foliage as needed.
