Liane up to at least 4·5 m. high; stem green, 4-lined and finely pubescent when young, becoming reddish-brown or purplish-brown, persistently 4-lined or 4-angled and pubescent, without lenticels or with numerous small faint ones visible only on the older branches. Leaf-lamina deep green above, pale green below, sometimes with brownish nervation, 4·8–8·2(12) × 1·9–4(6) cm., oblong to oblong-elliptic or obovate, obtuse or more rarely rounded or shortly acuminate at the apex, with margin glandular-denticulate, cuneate at the base, chartaceous, softly pubescent on midrib and nerves and sparsely on rest of lamina or rarely subglabrous, with midrib and 5–6(7) lateral nerves slightly prominent below but plane or almost so above; petiole 2–7(9) mm. long, softly pubescent; stipules c. 0·5–1 mm. long, linear-filamentous with broad base, reddish-brown, pubescent, not united. Flowers ? in ± lax simple axillary dichasia with accessory branches; peduncles and inflorescence-branches quadrangular, pubescent; buds c. 0·8 mm. long, cylindric; pedicels 0·5–2 mm. long; bracts c. 0·7 mm. long, triangular, entire, pubescent. Sepals greenish with paler margin, c. 0·3 mm. long, equal, ovate-triangular to semicircular, obtuse to rounded, entire, pubescent, united in the lower 1/3–1/2. Petals greenish to brownish, 0·8–1 mm. long, narrowly oblong, rounded, entire, with margin ± incurved, glabrous, imbricate in bud, suberect or ± spreading at anthesis. Disk single, shallowly 3-lobed, surrounding the ovary. Stamens 3, with filaments short, narrow; anthers extrorse, circular, 1-thecous. Ovary with short style; stigmas completely united; ovules 2 per loculus. Mericarps pale green or yellow-green, 3·7–5·2(8) × 1·4–1·9 cm., flattened, narrowly oblong to oblanceolate, obtuse to rounded at the apex, 2-seeded, striate. Seeds winged, with veins marginal and submedian.
