A morphologically similar species to Polypodium vulgare L. Observation of number of macromorphological features and the micromorphological features of the sporangia is essential for correct delimitation. Reported for the first time for the flora of North Macedonia by Melovski and Hristovski (2015).
Lifeform: Perrenial; Hemicryptophyte according to the Raunkiær system.
Distribution: Native to Madeira, Europe to Iran according to the distribution information provided by the Plants of the World Online portal (Royal Botanic Garden, Kew).
Habitat: Shady habitats- oak forests, shaded rocky areas, river gorges.
