Abutilon pictum

Chinese Lantern is an evergreen shrub producing an abundance of showy, orange, bell-shaped flowers adorned with prominent crimson veining. The flowers resemble Chinese lanterns, hence their common name and they are edible, raw or cooked. The leaves are shiny, maple-like and dark green. Native to Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay, Abutilon pictum blooms all year long, attracting butterflies and hummingbirds. It grows 4 to 6 feet tall and is suitable to grow as a wall shrub, espalier or in a decorative container. Prefers full sun to part shade and evenly moist, well-drained soil. (Pot size: 1.5 gallon)
