Phaius tankervilleae

Phaius tankervilleae was first cultivated in England around 1778. It is commonly called the “Nun Orchid” due to the shape of its flower. Phaius tankervilleae is a tropical species from Southeast Asia. Its habitat is sheltered moist forest to grasslands. Phaius produces large pseudobulbs and long leaves. The flower stalks are up to 4 feet long with 5″ inflorescence that are chestnut with purple lips.
