Planting information: ‘Marigoule’ is a mixture of (crenata × sativa) originating from France and is cold hardy to cold hardy to -15. Known to be introduced to the US markets in 1992.
Fruiting information: The nuts are red and have a good flavor but have a harder to peel nut. Fruiting in 3-5 years from seed 2-4 from bareroot planting. Often used as a pollinator for pollen sterile chestnut trees (Colossal, Bouch de Betizac, and Marrone).
Benefits: Beyond its use as a pollinator Marigoule is also known to have a high level of resistance to Phytophthora spp. and a reputation for producing good offspring. Its root rot resistance makes it an ideal candidate for wetter plantings..
