M. spicata var. crispa ‘Algerian Fruity’ (112)

c112.1 112 c112.2

Source: Hubert McHale, Ireland. 2003.

Ref: 112

This mint is not usually listed as a ‘curly’ (crispa) variety but it definitely is very curled. It has a sweet, quite spicy spearmint smell. The leaves are heavily serrated with curled teeth. The stems are very red extending in to the leaf midrib which has some adjacent yellowing. Spikes of lavender flowers.

This cultivar was obtained from Hubert McHale and, since some of his varieties have been quite different (sometimes excitingly so) I reordered from another supplier to compare (see cultivar 0112).
