  • Deciduous tree, 20 ft (6 m) high and wide, somewhat open, glossy dark red-brown bark.  Leaves alternate, simple, reddish maroon when new but maturing dark green.  Flowers buds red and opening to single, clear, purplish-red flowers.  Fruit dark red-purple, about 10 mm diam.
  • Sun, not very disease susceptible.     Developed by Dan Dayton, University of Illinois, introduced in 1962.
  • Hardy to USDA Zone 4.
