  • Deciduous shrub, compact, multi-stemmed, upright then arching, slow-growing, 5 × 5 ft (1.5 × 1.5 m) tall and wide, spreading.  Leaves alternate, pinnately compound, small, 4 linear leaflets, about 1 cm long, dull green.  Flowers pea-like, small, yellow.  Pods small, about 2 cm long, linear.
  • Sun, adaptable, even to dry sites, very cold hardy, tolerates wind.  Commonly planted in the upper Mid-west, often grown as a hedge.
  • Hardy to USDA Zone 3         Native to northwestern China and Siberia.
