Crassula pubescens, commonly known as Jersey Pygmyweed or Red Carpet Crassula, is a stunning succulent that originates from the Western Cape region of South Africa. This semi-shrubby perennial grows up to 30-70 cm tall and forms dense groups with deciduous leaves. Its stems are fragile and covered with pubescent leaves that show off beautifully hairy leaves with a silvery sheen.

Crassula pubescens is an easy-to-grow succulent that adds a splash of color to any garden with its green foliage that turns red in full sun or when kept dry. The leaves are small and grow in the shape of a rosette, and as the plant matures, the leaves become bigger and turn red. The plant blooms for months in winter and spring, with fragrant white flowers that are elongate-elliptic and have petal appendages twice as long as broad.

To care for Crassula pubescens, it needs 4-6 hours of light to prevent etiolation and can tolerate partial to full sun. However, it needs to be acclimated to full sun to prevent sun damage. It requires a well-draining soil, and using a 2:1 ratio of cactus mix and perlite is highly recommended. Although these plants are highly adapted to dry weather conditions, they do much better when given sufficient amounts of water. Water every 7-10 days or 14 days depending on the ventilation in your area. The top 2cm of the soil needs to be dry before it can be watered again.

Propagation of Crassula pubescens is relatively easy. Obtain cuttings from healthy-looking plants and let them dry for a few hours to a day. Once the cut has healed and dried, stick the cuttings in a well-draining potting mix or lay the leaf cuttings flat. Keep away from direct sunlight and water or mist the soil every few days. After about two weeks or so, you will notice new roots growing.

Overall, Crassula pubescens is a top choice succulent that is perfect for any garden with its intricate clusters and stunning blooms. With proper care and maintenance, this plant will thrive and add a pop of color to your garden.
