      Description
      Annuals; culms 50 cm tall, geniculate; nodes glabrous. Leaves 10 x 1.5 cm, lanceolate, acute to either ends, aristate, glabrous. Racemes 5-10, slender, sub-digitate, 6-7 cm long. Spikelets similar, 4-5 x 1 mm, paired, one pedicelled and one sessile; lower glume 4 x 1 mm, elliptic, shortly 2-cleft at apex, 4-nerved, glabrous; upper glume 4 x 1 mm, boat-shaped, acuminate, 4-nerved; lower floret absent; upper bisexual; second lemma forms the hyaline base of the awn; awn 5-6 mm long; palea 0.5 mm long, hyaline; stamens 3; ovary elliptic, glabrous, stigma plumose.
