Good companions Crataegus orientalis enjoys a sunny position and looks best under-planted with sun-washed silvers, such as lavender, phlomis or artemisia. It also blends well with old-fashioned roses, particularly with the pale-green, matt foliage of Rosa gallica and R. x alba. All hawthorns are very hardy, versatile trees.
