Erect, summer growing perennial tufted grass. Leaf folded in bud. Leaf blade to 20 cm long, 5 mm wide, rough on the lower surface, margins rough, hairy along the edges. Ligule membranous, up to 5 mm long. Inflorescence distinctive contracted white to straw coloured panicle.
