Perennial herb to 60 cm tall, woolly. Stems erect or ascending, little-branched. Leaves linear to spathulate, to 6 cm long, to 2.5 cm wide, margins entire, sessile. Capitula few to many in compact clusters, to 1.5 cm across; mostly spring. Florets bright yellow. Achenes 4-angled, 0.5-1mm long, glabrous or warty. Pappus bristles yellow at apex. C. semipapposum (Labill.) Steetz, Clustered Everlasting, Yellow Buttons, from all states of Australia is an aromatic perennial herb to 60 cm tall with linear leaves, capitula to 7 mm across in dense terminal clusters, and yellow involucral bracts and florets. [Helichrysum semipapposum (Labill.) DC.]

C. apiculatum and C. semipapposum are closely related and both are very variable; intermediates have been recorded in the wild.
