GROWER INFO & TIPS

  • Growth rate: medium
  • Grow in well-drained soil
  • Water needs: keep dry; very sensitive to water
  • Possible pests: aphids, leaf spot
  • Overwintering: cold frame with clear poly; keep dry
  • This is a cool season grass—do not cut back in hot months
  • Works well in small sizes, such as quarts and 1 gallons, but can be successfully grown in larger containers
  • Fertilizing: use a slow release, low-medium rate fertilizer; somewhat sensitive to fertilizer, especially in summer months.

*Note: please adapt these suggestions as needed to accommodate your local conditions.

LANDSCAPING INFO

  • Probably the finest foliage of all ornamental grasses
  • Extremely drought tolerant; native plant
  • Adapts very well to containers
  • Mass together in the landscape; the most gentle breeze creates movement
  • Can self-sow; use in managed landscapes to keep it under control
  • Wheat-colored seed heads and light green foliage create a lovely two-toned effect
