Mexican Feather Grass is the most fine-textured grass we grow. With wispy, flowing, lime-green foliage, the slightest breeze will cause it to sway. This cool-season native grass retains its color year round, although it may brown out somewhat in the heat of the summer. Light, wheat-colored seed heads emerge in May. Self-sowing can occur, so it’s best used in managed landscapes where spreading can be controlled. Mexican Feather Grass requires dry soil and full sun, and it is very drought tolerant. Nassella tenuissima is especially spectacular planted in decorative containers. It is native to the Southwest US, Mexico and Argentina where it inhabits dry areas.

GROWER INFO & TIPS
- Growth rate: medium
- Grow in well-drained soil
- Water needs: keep dry; very sensitive to water
- Possible pests: aphids, leaf spot
- Overwintering: cold frame with clear poly; keep dry
- This is a cool season grass—do not cut back in hot months
- Works well in small sizes, such as quarts and 1 gallons, but can be successfully grown in larger containers
- Fertilizing: use a slow release, low-medium rate fertilizer; somewhat sensitive to fertilizer, especially in summer months.
