Rhizomatous, tufted perennial, grass-like or herb (sedge), 0.15-0.7(-1.5) m high, clumps to 1 m. Fl. brown, Jan to Dec (mainly March-June). Grey or brown sand, lateritic loam, mud, sandy clay. Swamps to uplands.
