Heterotheca subaxillaris, or Camphorweed, is common in primary dunes where it occurs isolated and in sprawling patches.
Its common name comes from the smell its leaves produce when crushed. The flowers resemble yellow daisies
The range of H. subaxillaris stretches from coast to coast and covers all but the most northern states.
