Description

Habit: 
Herbs annual, twining, with ± densely retrorsely hispid-pilose axial parts. Stems 1–2 m.
Leaves: 
Petiole 1.5–6 cm; leaf blade cordate-ovate, 2.5–9 × 2.5–7.5 cm, pilose, more densely so abaxially, base cordate, margin entire, apex acuminate or attenuate.
Inflorescences: 
Inflorescences capitate, few to several flowered; peduncle 1.5–7 cm; involucral bracts navicular, tapered at both ends, 2.7–5.5 cm, outside densely pubescent, inside long hirtellous; bracteoles oblong-spatulate, much smaller, villous.
Flowers: 
Sepals nearly equal, 8–10 mm; outer 3 sepals elliptic-spatulate; inner 2 sepals narrower, lanceolate, villous, apex obtuse. Corolla pink or purple, salverform, 2.5–3 cm; tube cylindric; limb with deltoid lobes, midpetaline bands pilose. Stamens inserted near middle of corolla tube. Ovary glabrous.
Fruits: 
Capsule ± globose, 5–6 mm in diam.
Seeds: 
Seeds dark brown, 3–4 mm, glabrous or short pubescent.

of forests, clearings on mountain slopes, roadsides, grasslands; 100–1000 m. 

Thailand: In
clearings and sunny areas in grassy fields, old clearings, margins of rice
paddy, thickets, scrub and disturbed areas in dipterocarp forest and deciduous
dipterocarp-oak forest; altitude: < 50–520 m. 

Phenology: 

Flowering: February, September, November, December; fruiting: November, December.
