On Tuesday, the New York Jets unveiled its 53-man roster for the 2023 NFL season, and among the names listed was a familiar one to the Golden Triangle region.
Former West Point and East Mississippi Community College alum Jason Brownlee was one of seven receivers who made the cut.
He went undrafted in the 2023 NFL Draft and was signed to the Jets roster as an undrafted free agent in May.
Brownlee now finds himself surrounded by Garrett Wilson, Allen Lazard, Randall Cobb and Mecole Hardman in the Jets’ wide receiver room, with future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers under center.
Brownlee spent two seasons in Scooba, with his best season coming as a sophomore in 2019 where he caught 75 passes for nearly 1,100 yards and 12 receiving touchdowns.
He then transferred to Southern Miss, where he spent his final three seasons of college, recording over 600 receiving yards in all three seasons. His best season came as a senior with 55 receptions for 891 receiving yards and eight touchdowns.
In Hattiesburg, Brownlee recorded over 2,100 receiving yards, 21 receiving touchdowns and nearly 140 receptions.
As a senior with the Green Wave, Brownlee was named First-Team All-State, hauling in 42 passes for 967 yards and 11 touchdowns, helping lead West Point to the MHSAA 5A state championship in 2017.
