Etymology of Pouzolzia:
For Pierre Marie Casimir de Pouzolz (1785–1858), French soldier, botanist and writer on flora of France, member of the Linnaean Society of Paris and the Académie du Gard. He served in the military from 1805–1830, retiring early with the rank of captain. He authored Catalogue des plantes qui croissent naturellement dans le Gard (1842) and began work on volume one of Flore du département du Gard (1854), a work which Professor Philip Courciere, professor of natural history at a school in Nîmes, completed after his death as Graminees et Cryptogames Vasculaires de la Flore du Gard (1862). He had a herbarium containing more than 20 000 specimens.
