Etymology of Dracaena:
Gk. drakaina = a female dragon. Various meanings are ascribed to the name, mainly centred around the red, resinous, blood-like sap of D. draco – dragon’s blood, but there is no precise explanation for the name.
Etymology of mannii:
Named after Gustav Mann (1835-1916) horticulturist who joined Kew in 1859, collected in West Africa and worked as a forestor in India
