Etymology of Adenia:
Named after the city of Aden in Yemen where Forsskål came across this plant. While there are glands (Gk. aden) on the petiole and in the flowers of some species, this is not the reason for the name.
Etymology of gummifera:
From the Greek kommi = "gum" and -phoros = "bearing" referring the gum or latex in the plant
