Distribution: Occurring chiefly east of the Cascades in Washington; widely distributed throughout much of North America.

Habitat: Occasionally escapes from cultivation, chiefly in disturbed areas or riparian zones.

Description:
General:

Trees are 20 meters tall, dioecious. Bark is yellowish-brown to grayish-brown.

Leaves:

Leaves are deciduous; 10-25cm in length and pinnate in shape, papery in texture. Petiolules are 5-7cm at rachis linkage.
