Description
One of the very few annual species from my garden, which I grow as a reminder of a great trip to the New York Botanical Garden one year.
When cultivated in mass the colorful bracts produce a ‘wow’ effect – like seen in the picture.
It is also beautiful in small groups of 2-3 plants, especially when used with plants with contrasting flowers/foliage color (orange, pink, yellow, white). Think Papaver atlanticum ‘Flore-Pleno’, Anthericum ramosum, Orlaya grandiflora, yellow foliage Berberis…..The small axillary flowers are visited by pollinators.
Germination: warm germinator; easy. Few plants with pink bracts are bound to appear among the purple ones.
