This native sedge forms an attractive clump of bluish slender upright and aching blue-green leaves. In late Spring and early Summer, erect to arching stems bearing reddish-brown and pale yellow male flower spokes borne above female flower spokes appear, which are followed by distinctive knobbly looking brown fruits. Ideal for cottage gardens, beds, borders and containers.
Prefers boggy, damp conditions - moist but well drained moisture retentive soil - in full sun or partial shade. Can also be used as a pond marginal, planting at the waters edge or even up to 10cms deep in water. Semi-evergreen and requires little maintenance, just trim after foliage has died back in Autumn to tidy. Easy to propagate by division in Autumn or Spring. Spreads by short creeping rhizomes that bear small tufts of shoots.
