Nicotiana forgetiana

2. Nicotiana forgetiana Hemsl. (S-Am.) – A very rare and ephemeral alien. First recorded in 1932 on waste land in Liège. In recent years seen for instance (in abundance and along with Nicotiana alata) on a demolition site in Gentbrugge (Gent) in 2001 and on ground heaps in Wachtebeke in 2019. In the latter location Nicotiana forgetiana arose from an exposed seedbank at the former nurseries of van Houtte.

Nicotiana forgetiana is distinguished by relatively small, red corollas and leaves that are not or hardly decurrent. It is sometimes poorly distinguished from Nicotiana xsanderae, its hybrid with N. alata.
