Red Owl Clover (Orthocarpus purpurascens)

Family Scrophulaceae

This plant was photographed in March 2005 in Sierra Blanca Canyon Wash.

These flowers and their bracts are "dark red-purple", their "leaves threadlike, with threadlike segments" (Niehaus et al., cited on main wildflower page, p.244; Epple, ditto, p.230). As the images show, the flowers stand very erect.
