Common Name Ball's Nervilia [South African Orchid Enthusiast 1900's]

Found in Tanzania, Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia and Zimbabwe in grasslands and grassland scrub at elevations around 600 to 1500 meters as a miniature to small sized, warm to cool growing mycoheterotrophic terrestrial with a sunspherical to ovoid tuber giving rise to a single, arising after flowering, erect, ovate, acute, glabrous, heavily pleated, dark olive green above with silvery lines, dark purple beneath, petiolate base leaf that blooms in the spring and summer on an erect, to 12" [30 cm] long, 1 to occasionally 2 flowered inflorescence with 1 to 2 long bracts and carrying a suberect to nodding, gree to yellow green more or less purple suffused and a white to greenish white lip veined with purple.
