Found in Ivory Coast, Ghana, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Sudan, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi and Zimbabwe in wet open grasslands and woodland in high rainfall areas at elevations of 600 to 1400 meters as a miniature to medium sized, warm to cool growing terrestrial with subterranean, chain forming tubers giving rise to 4 to 5, lowest sheathing, upper, linear, coriaceous leaves that are absent at flowering occuring in the spring on a laxly many flowered inflorescence with linear, acuminate floral bracts.
