Found in Nigeria, Cameroon, Central African republic, Congo, Zaire, Rwanda, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia and Zimbabwe in seasonally burned grasslands and dry bush elevations of 900 to 1600 meters as a small to medium sized, warm to cool growing terrestrial with underground, obliquely irregular conical, inchains tubers giving rise to 3 to 5, plicate, elliptic to lanceolate elliptic, acute to acuminate, srticulated to the petiolate base leaves that blooms in the spring on a 6 to 12" [30 to 60 cm] long, densely many flowered inflorescence arising before or with the leaves with 2 to 3 basal bracts and 1 to 4, linear, sterile bracts above and linear, accuminate floral bracts.
