Indigofera tinctoria is an erect, branching deciduous shrub growing to about 1 or 2 metres tall. Indigo has a long history of use as a deep blue dye made from the leaves. This slightly tender shrub produces purple pea like flowers in racemes. Best grown against a warm wall or fence as frost tolerance is only to about -10c.
