Botanical Description

About 10-20cm tall in bloom. Leaves narrowly linear, erect, ascending or prostrate, often coiled at the tips or sometimes for most of their length. Flowers 8-13mm long and wide or wider, the narrow lobes recurving, green to bronzy or blackish, in nodding umbels of two to five. T. n, forma australis has almost sessile flowers. Chile and Argentina, from the central cordilleras to Fuegia in alpine steppe scrub and bunchgrass, in the mountains near melting snow, sea level to 2000m. T. ameghinoi is similar but has even narrower, always straight leaves and flowers with narrower tepal lobes.
