Leaves ascending to spreading usually to about 30cm long but exceptionally to twice this, the blades linear to narrowly lanceolate in outline, simply pinnate. Pinnae deep green, forty-one to eighty-one, l-3cm long, often overlapping, ovate, somewhat curved towards the leaf apex, unequally based and spine-tipped toothed. Northern hemisphere including the British Isles, in basic rock crevices at subalpine and alpine levels. Needs sharply drained soil and good light to thrive in cultivation.
