Flowering stems 25-45cm high, occasionally more. Leaves four to six, strap-shaped, 1-1.5cm wide, bright green and glabrous with a silvery-white stripe. Racemes composed of up to twelve outwards facing to nodding flowers. Each flower widely bell-shaped 2.5-3cm across, silvery-white (green in bud), late spring. Southeastern Balkan peninsula amongst mountain rock and in grassy places, also widely cultivated and naturalised across Europe. One of the most shade-tolerant species. [Pl.315].
