Basal leaves obovate to lanceolate, 5-10cm long, deeply toothed to pinnatifid. Flowering stems slender, usually unbranched, 10-30cm in height. Flowerheads about 3cm wide, orange-yellow, often red in bud. Alps and the mountains of Italy and the Balkan peninsula. C.a. subsp. glabrescens does not exceed 16cm in height and has smaller flowerheads. Apennines and Balkan peninsula.
