Tufted perennial, with ascending stems 10-30cm in length, composed of thirteen to twenty-seven oblong leadets. Flowers 1.5-2cm long, purple to bluish-violet, in short racemes, summer. Subarctic European U.S.S.R. to Ireland, southwards to the Alps and Ukraine, rather local in calcareous grassland and dunes.
