General Information

COMMON NAMES: Large Oplismenus-Grass

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE pantropical

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Introduced - Polynesian, Naturalised; Land, lowlands - mountains (++); open-forest

KEY FEATURES: Unbranched grass to 70cm high. STEM rooting at nodes, then ascending to 70cm; nodes 2-5cm apart. LEAVES clasping 2(-4)cm with hairy margin; BLADE flat, wavy, short, to 90x15mm, finely serrated on edges and on veins, base asymmetrical, tip sharp; ligule 1mm with long hairs. FLOWERS stalk to 30cm, with 5-10 laterals to 2cm, decreeing distally; laterals with up to 25 ventral paired-flowers in two rows; flowers with a 1cm spike.
